I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Deathding's NEW Top 15 Anime Openings! - Deathding - Fanpop
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
This article was brought to you by, a tomato. :) Wait.... WHAT THE FUCK!?
(WARNING: Cussing is present in this article. If that turns you off in any way, please leave now. Although it’s not everywhere, you should still be aware of it. Thank you.)
Well, it may not seem like it, but MAN have I changed a ton since my first Anime Openings article. My writing is more organized, I’m smarter now, and of course, I’ve watched more anime.
So much to the point where an average human being would consider it absolutely terrifying. ^__^
And yeah, that old list is REALLY starting to get outdated, so enjoy my brand new REMAKE of my Top 10 Anime Openings!
There will be a lot of new entries on here, as well as some new commentary for the old ones. And because I’m going for the Suicide Dive here, I’m making it a Top 15!
♫Men, WE DON’T KNOW WHAT WE DID! :D♫
But with all bad jokes aside, I hope you enjoy my brand new Top 15 Anime Openings! This list is only for the best of the best of animated intros, so LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!
Seriously though, WHY IN THE WORLD is this song so catchy? Did the directors PLAN all this!? I mean, I know Chobits already has a great soundtrack but COME ON! Did they really have to go the extra mile JUST to make everyone listen to this song till their goddamn ears bled!?
In all seriousness though, this is a fantastic opening. The visuals are pretty, it shows our main cast of characters in a fun and light-hearted way, the vocals are great, and obviously, IT’S THE MOST OBNOXIOUSLY CATCHY SONG I’VE EVER HEARD.
I remember Chobits being a pretty good anime, having pretty stellar comedy and a REALLY good soundtrack, even NOT counting the opening. So if you ever have the time, I recommend the show.
Now if you’ll excuse me for a second, I’m going to bang my head on a wall until I get amnesia.
#14. Shiny Tale (Daily Lives Of Highschool Boys)
If only High School was ACTUALLY this fun. My god, this anime makes it look fun as hell, can you even IMAGINE what it would be like if this was the way High Schools worked?
Anyways, Danshi Koukousei No Nichijou, or The Daily Lives Of Highschool Boys, is a comedy anime from Square Enix (OF ALL PEOPLE) that is easily one of my favorites. It’s honestly one of the funniest anime I’ve ever seen, plain and simple. And the opening sure as hell showcases that.
First off, the song itself is great. From the lyrics to the vocals to the catchiness factor of it all, Shiny Tale is certainly one of the better Anime songs I’ve heard, and that’s saying a LOT.
The visuals are also REALLY solid, as is the animation. We see all the characters, the school, some of the areas, and it’s pretty darn appealing to the eyes.
And the chorus line? BRILLIANT, simply brilliant. It’s really catchy and I’d be completely lying if I said I didn’t replay the chorus line at least three times.
And all in all, this is a really great opening. It kind of suffers from being the stereotypical opening where all the characters are running for some reason with a smile on their face, but looking at it from a different perspective, it’s really darn good.
It just has that classic charm to it where you feel like you’re going on an adventure, and you’re going to have a fun time doing it, you know?
Captain Obvious: And THAT’S why Shiny Tale is #14 on this list! ^___^
Jared: Uh, I think the audience already knew that.
Captain Obvious: You say the audience already knew that?
Jared: SOMEBODY KILL THIS MAN. >___<
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, hear me out. I’ve always wondered why the BEST anime openings ALWAYS belong to the bloody violent shows filled with gore, and they are! And if you don’t believe me yet, you will eventually.
I remember Deadman Wonderland just being alright. I stopped watching it halfway through because there was so many things that I just didn’t enjoy about it, but I heard the second half is good, so maybe one day I’ll dive back into it. But hey, at least the intro was amazing.
Case in point, One Reason. I LOVE this opening so much, it’s honestly a perfect mix of demented insanity and deep symbolism that is THROUGH THE FUCKING ROOF!
The song itself also sounds amazing, that should go without saying. It’s violent and frantic in a fun way, not that you shouldn’t expect that from a show called Deadman Wonderland.
And literally the ENTIRE opening only has two colors in it, those being Blood Red and Monochrome Gray. There’s also a scene in the opening where there’s a bunch of slaves walking, and then the camera moves up to reveal a puppet-master.
You see what I mean about the symbolism in this opening being absolutely amazing? Seriously, you could make a million interpretations out of those two things ALONE.
And the visuals are just STELLAR. Everything looks very crisp and detailed and I honestly don’t think even a second of this opening was wasted.
Harold Hater: A MILLION INTERWHATEVER MY ASS! AND NOT EVEN A SECOND!? YOU STUPID LIAR!
Jared: Where in the world did YOU come from and why?
Harold Hater: DON’T PLAY SMART WITH ME, YOU DUMB SOULLESS TEENAGER!
Harold Hater: SHUT UP ALREADY YOU DUMB STUPID BITCH!
Jared: I changed my mind, somebody kill THIS man….
#12. Motteke! Sailor Fuku (Lucky Star)
If you told me to describe this opening in one word, it would be
But in all honesty, I’ve always loved this opening. Ever since I watched Lucky Star way back in the day, I always remember dancing around to this intro like a creepy old refugee who just drank WAY too much champagne.
And what’s not to love about it? It’s catchy, upbeat, the song itself is very nice, and the little dancing around different areas is cute and easy on the eyes.
Not to mention the fact that the opening is goddamn hilarious from a different perspective. Seriously, it’s a bunch of girls prancing around the city like they’re Ginger fucking Rogers. XD
If I ever want a relaxing yet charming song to listen to, I’ll most likely go to this one. It has this distinct charm to it that I absolutely love, and obviously, I can’t get it out of my head.
Lucky Star was a pretty good show as well. It wasn’t one of those anime with a HUGE complicated story more perplexing than that of goddamn 2001 A Space Odyssey, it was a short fun anime on funny every-day situations that I remember liking quite a bit.
And that’s all there really is to say about it. It’s a simple, yet delicate melody that really does make a fantastic opening for Lucky Star.
#11. Calling All Spider Riders (Spider Riders)
WHY DOES NOBODY TALK ABOUT THIS SHOW!? Seriously, in all my 5 years of being an anime fan, not ONCE has ANYONE ever brought up this anime. And considering how it’s in my Top 30 Favorite Shows list, THAT PISSES ME OFF! But I digress.
So onto the opening for this show, it’s really good! The mix of synthesizers and rap actually work off of each other pretty well, and the lyrics are great!
It really makes you feel like you’re a part of this show, and I can’t get enough of it.
Also worth noting is the animation in the opening, and it’s quite the sight to behold. We see our main cast, some cool powers, a bit of the world, it really does look great, ESPECIALLY for 2006.
The show itself was also REALLY good, hence me being ticked off at it’s really low popularity. My god, you’ll be hard pressed to find someone out there who actually SAW Spider Riders.
But all in all, it’s a fantastic opening for a fantastic show. A severely underrated show, albeit.
What in the hell does the X stand for, Xylophone? Whatever.
So the opening of Sonic X is pretty damn awesome, not that anyone didn’t know that by now. And if there’s ONE good thing that came out of this show, it was the kick-ass opening.
I seriously doubt that anyone doesn’t know EVERY goddamned lyric of this song, it’s that popular, catchy, and downright awesome. We get amazing visuals, some fast-paced editing, really good lyrics, and a beat so hauntingly attractive it’s honestly sort of scary.
If only the show was actually as good as the opening, that would’ve changed EVERYTHING. I mean, the show was DECENT at first, but I feel that Sonic X is a show that just gets worse the more you watched it. But hey, this is a summary of the opening, not a review of the show.
Overall, it’s a really good opening. I honestly can’t find anything wrong with it, other than the fact that it can grade on your mind pretty quickly if you’re one of those RIP Replay Button kind of people.
#9. Kirby Of The Stars Second Opening (Kirby Of The Stars)
I literally just found this opening five minutes ago, no joke. And while I’ve already said how much I LOVE the English opening to Kirby Right Back At Ya, I find this one SLIGHTLY better!
It feels more like Japanese Animation and not an Anitoon like Pokemon, for one. And I feel that this one is less ALL IN YOUR FACE and more… Relaxing!
The visuals are beautiful, the singer is stellar, and everything feels so fluid and fresh, you know?
Also, I know I’m not usually one to harp on cute things, but I have to let out my inner Rena Ryuuguu here. KIRBY IS SO FUCKING CUTE IN THIS OPENING! ^____^
And combined with that epic chorus line, I couldn’t have POSSIBLY asked for anything better.
Kirby Right Back At Ya was a pretty great anime for me. I enjoyed the comedy, story, animation, and the movie was absolutely amazing. It’s not for everyone, but I still recommend it.
As for the intro, it’s short, sweet, and to the point! And that’s just the way I like it.
Harold Hater: JUST THE WAY YOU LIKE IT!? WHAT ABOUT US, HAVE YOU NO SOUL, YOU COCK-SUCKING BASTARD!
Jared: Dude, calm the hell DOWN! I can’t have an opinion now? And how the fuck did you even get in here in the first place?
Harold Hater: SHUT UP STUPID BITCH! >:(
Jared: My god, this guy…. He’s really starting to tick me off. -____-
ALL ABOARD THE UNDERRATED TRAIN! NEXT STOP, NUMBER 4! :D
But again, with all bad jokes aside, this opening REALLY stands out from the rest, at least in my humble opinion.
It’s catchy as hell, it shows the main cast in a fun and somewhat unique way, the visuals are pretty great, and the singer gives the song all of her heart, I swear.
I remember the show itself being awesome. Hell, TFOZ is one of my favorite anime now, so that CLEARLY says something. It had good comedy, action, plot, pretty much everything was nailed, with the exception of a few things, as I’ve complained about already in one of my Random Rants.
And although the show has been called a classic, I never hear anyone mention the opening, which is a damn shame because every second of it is PURE POWER!
Hell, if you told me to watch the first 10 or so seconds for an hour, I’d GLADLY fucking do it! I mean, it’s not like I have much of a life anyways. XD
And that’s about it. Again, it’s short, sweet, and to the point. And that’s JUST the way I fucking love it.
This is where the list gets sort of predictable, starting with the god-tier opening that is Red Fraction.
I have never met ANYONE who watched this intro and NOT absolutely love it, IT’S THAT POWERFUL!
The style is really unique, the visuals are amazing, the song is really damn great, and the amount of bad-ass just POURING out of this opening is OFF OF THE GODDAMNED CHARTS!
LITERALLY, THE CHARTS JUST CAN’T FUCKING HANDLE IT!
And by god, the vocals sound downright legendary. I think the static-ish effect makes it sound even MORE amazing.
So when you get right down to it, this opening is absolutely mind-blowing. Literally EVERYTHING is done pretty much perfectly, and there’s never a moment where you feel bored or anything of that nature.
Black Lagoon itself was also a really good anime. Seriously, the opening ain’t just for show, I’ll have you know.
SERIOUSLY! THIS HARDCORE ADRENALINE RUSH OF TESTOSTERONE AND BAD-ASSERY IS SO MOTHER-FUCKING EPIC THAT I DON’T EVEN THINK THAT THERE’S A GODDAMN WORD FOR IT YET!
EVERYTHING THROUGH THE ROOF? HAH! UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE DICK-SMOKING CENTURY! THIS OPENING HAS EVERYTHING, LITERALLY FUCKING EVERYTHING A GUY LIKE ME COULD EVER WANT IN LIFE.
IF YOU DON’T LIKE THIS INTRO, THEN YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER SEEING YOUR STUPID-ASS PSYCHOLOGIST! :D
Random Narrator Guy Outta Fucking Nowhere: AND WELCOME BACK TO
DOES HE STILL! :D THE TALK SHOW ABOUT SEEING IF PEOPLE STILL LOVE SOMETHING THEY USED TO! TODAY’S EPISODE, DEATHDING!!! ^_____^
Jared: You know, just for ONE fucking list I’d love to say my entries without some dumbass interruption….
But yeah, it’s been quite a while now and I STILL love this opening. Hell, do I even really need to say anything? It was made by Kotoko, my all-time favorite Japanese singer who made some of my all-time favorite songs, including Wing My Way, Fatally, this one, Agony, and another one coming up very soon on this list.
Pretty much EVERYTHING from the visuals to the lyrics to the singer to the kick-ass techno beat is absolutely perfect and I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.
And can we take one moment to think of how AWESOME the song name is? WE SURVIVE! You can’t get more bad-ass than that! ^___^
VGN itself is just a shitty-ass hentai though, I wouldn’t watch it at ALL. And if there’s ONE good goddamn thing that came out of VGN, it’s the amazing opening.
It surprises me that I put this as #1 on my old list though, I guess a lot of things CAN change in a short time-span. Even if it’s only about 7 or so months.
But none of that changes my opinion for this FANTASTIC opening. I loved it then, and I still fucking do.
#5. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni….. Something’s off here. XD)
Remember back when I said that all the gory anime had the BEST openings? Yeah, we’re getting back there now. Enter Higurashi’s opening! Also, great title there. :P
We’re ALSO back to the predictable part of the list, HOOPLA!
So the intro to Higurashi is…. Intriguing to say the least. The symbolism in this opening is REALLY deep and the lyrics, as well as the song itself, is REALLY good.
It’s got all the obligatory stuff like great vocals and animation, but if there’s one thing the Higurashi opening does absolutely wonderfully, it’s certainly the impact it leaves on you as you progress throughout this CREEPY freaking show.
And I swear to god this intro just gets even MORE sinister and evil the more you continue to spectate Higurashi, even if the opening ITSELF isn’t any different. And similar to One Reason, the symbolism is OFF OF THE FREAKING CHARTS.
I think my favorite part is when Rena is walking towards the camera with blood all over her while the vocals go full-on Static Mode like in the opening of Black Lagoon, it looks amazing and it sends shivers down my spine EVERY single time.
The anime was also done EXTREMELY well, as it’s easily my favorite psychological horror anime of all time. It was dark as fucking hell and I wouldn’t let a little kid touch it with a 39½ foot pole, but if you’re up to the challenge and are looking for an anime to disturb the hell out of you, you can’t get better than Higurashi.
Gee, another well-known anime with an amazing opening that nobody ever talks about. YAAAAY.
My god, I will never understand humanity. How is it even POSSIBLE to watch this show and not talk about it’s opening, IT WAS MADE BY KOTOKO!
I guess this just proves the fact that my opinion doesn’t mean shit to the anime community, but I digress.
So onto the opening itself, what have I NOT said at this point? The animation is great, the song is fantastic and insanely catchy, as are the vocals, the lyrics are great, the pacing and text timing is well done, and it all flows well with what\'s happening on the screen.
But unlike the others, Shakugan No Shana\'s second opening is just..... For lack of a better term, BETTER.
It\'s not really that the opening is ABSOLUTELY LEGENDARY and a MASTERPIECE or anything, it just doesn\'t do anything wrong in a great way.
And granted, that\'s not enough to get it EXTREMELY high on the list, but it\'s still enough to be on an amazing spot like #4.
The show itself was stunning, as it had a fantastic story along with some great comedy and action scenes! There are SOMETIMES where Shakugan No Shana can get a bit TOO focused on story and action to the point where it becomes tiring and boring, but it rarely EVER happens and even when it does, they immediately fix it.
Also, and I\'m not going to lie guys, I watched the first opening of Shakugan No Shana, and although everyone seems to cream their pants over that one, it\'s definitely not better than this one.
And again, the second opening was sung by KOTOKO! That INSTANTLY annihilates all the competition RIGHT from the get-go, you know what I mean?
This opening is, in the words of Bruce Almighty, B-E-A-UTIFUL! :D
Seriously, the song is tear-jerking, the animation is PHENOMENAL for an Anime intro, it shows everything it needs to, and overall, it\'s an REMARKABLE opening for the show.
Clannad After Story, the sequel to Clannad, is more of a story-based sad Anime unlike the first season, which was a LOT more comedic based, even if it had plenty of sad moments to balance things out.
Clannad is also one of my all-time favorite anime. It mixes a beautifully heartbreaking story with hilarious comedy, something that I LOVE seeing together.
And what better way to showcase it\'s glory than with this astounding opening? Well, Soul Eater can think of one......
This is a PERFECT example of a show that had an EXCEPTIONAL opening and changed it 1/4 of the way through.
THIS IS WHY I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND JAPAN. WHY CHANGE AN OPENING IF IT\'S REALLY FUCKING GOOD!? IT\'S ELEMENTARY, MY DEAR!
Anyways, this is SERIOUSLY one of the most AMAZING Anime intros both in terms of sound and visuals. Everything ABOUT this opening from the fast-paced camera-angles to the character cast to the animation to the song itself is ALL downright LEGENDARY.
In fact, here\'s a challenge for you. You notice the links to the openings right under the images? Yeah, copy/paste the Soul Eater intro and just TRY not getting HYPED AS MOTHER-FUCKING HELL for an episode of this show.
The anime itself was also really good, even if it had a pretty half-assed execution to the VERY beginning of the first episode.
The show was awesome, and the opening is even better. By god, what could POSSIBLY have a better intro than Soul Eater?
Well, before we get to that, some honorable mentions that ALMOST made the list. :D
HM1: Sakura Kiss (Ouran High School Host Club)
Another obnoxiously catchy song to the point where it feasts onto your mind until there\'s nothing left of it. The animation is stellar, the song itself is wonderfully positive in a happy and fun way, and our main cast is shown pretty damn well.
And the anime itself is one of my all-time favorite romantic comedies, check out both the show AND the opening if you haven\'t already. I highly recommend it.
Netflix trying to skip this intro..... FUCK NO FAM! XD
This is a VERY well-rounded intro for an Anime like Samurai Champloo. It has that classic samurai feel to it and the rapping is done very well. The song is also pretty catchy and has a lot of depth to it!
The show itself was great. Not groundbreaking or anything, but for a solid samurai anime with some decent comedy and animation, Samurai Champloo is REALLY good.
I recommend the show, and the opening even more. And even if the show had some flaws, it\'s still a very solid experience to sit through that\'s guaranteed to give you some good laughs.
HM3: Kirby Right Back At Ya (Kirby Right Back At Ya....Higurashi Disease? XD)
From now on, that\'s going to be a thing. Whenever a song name is the same name as the Anime, I\'m going to call it the Higurashi Disease. XD
So this opening, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT FUCKING MIND WOULDN\'T LOVE THIS INTRO!? It\'s catchy as fucking hell, has sensational animation for 2001, and easy to learn lyrics for practically anyone!
And although I do still think that the Japanese one earlier on this list is better, that doesn\'t mean I can\'t jam my fucking ass off to this one.
The Kirby Anime is also a really good show. The plots are silly but mostly original and entertaining, the animation is almost unbelievable for 2001, the comedy is funny and very enjoyable, and although the story is pretty simple and suffers from the Same Formula Disease, it\'s still a great show.
Just TRY finding the animated actual opening on YouTube, it\'s not there. Trust me, I looked EVERYWHERE. So if you want to see the full animated intro and not just the song, then go to a random streaming site, find Toradora, play Episode 1, and skip to the opening.
But onto the point here, the opening for Toradora is really catchy and VERY solid indeed. And even if the lyrics sound absolutely retarded, the song has this distinct charm to it that I absolutely love.
It\'s cute, fun, and really damn catchy. Moving on!
And now.... Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of AAALLLL ages! I present to you, the absolute BEST Anime opening! I\'ve pulled no punches on this one, we\'ve saved the BEST for last......
PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR........ Kuusou Mesorogiwi.
Yet ANOTHER Anime that suffers from Soul Eater Disease in which the first opening is WAY better than all the others. Also, how many diseases do we have now, 3? XD Whatever.
So the opening for Future Diary is honestly just TOO damn good. EVERYTHING is perfect, absolutely FLAWLESS.
The animation is phenomenal, the song is groundbreaking, the visuals and flow are LEGENDARY, and the symbolism isn\'t just top of the barrel, IT\'S 20,000 FUCKING FEET IN THE SKY.
My god, Future Diary has EVERYTHING that an opening would EVER need to have. It gets you pumped, it\'s a great example of what the show is like, it shows the cast in a really damn awesome way, and again, the song is fucking fantastic.
I\'ll never be able to praise this opening enough, it\'s THAT GODDAMN GOOD.
SO goddamn amazing that it\'s actually one of my favorite songs, seriously. Not just in Anime, but in GENERAL.
HELL, I PLAY THIS SHIT ON MY I PHONE ALL OF THE GODDAMN TIME!
And even if there\'s not too much to say about it, it SURE AS HELL has gone down in the history of best anime openings.
Harold Hater: YOU STUPID-ASS BITCH! HOW DARE YOU HAVE AN OPINION!
Harold Hater: FUCKING DUMBASS THINKS THAT HE CAN GO AROUND THE INTERWEBS GIVING HIS THOUGHTS ON THINGS, HOW OFFENSE! YOU DUMB STUPID BITCH!
Jared: Somebody PLEASE get this prick away from me......
Harold Hater: WELL GUESS WHAT, THAT SHIT AIN\'T GONNA WORK, YOU DUMB STUPID BITCH!
Jared: That\'s it mother-fucker, you\'re going DOWN!
Jared: I said, you might want to start RUNNING, BITCH!
Harold Hater: TELL MY NONEXISTENT FRIENDS I LOVED THE-
